In his column this week, my husband Ron gave a long tyrade on why he hates, and does not use, a cell phone.
Here is why I do…
My husband asks:
“What time is the play/show/game/movie?”
I can find the answer instantly on my cell phone/internet app.
My husband asks:
“When is my next doctor’s appointment?”
I can find the answer instantly on my cell phone calendar app.
My husband asks:
“Didn’t we have a coupon for this dinner/item we are purchasing?”
I can find the answer instantly on my cell phone and allow the cashier to scan it from my cell phone.
My husband asks:
“Can you let the office know that we had to go out for a while and will be back in a couple of hours?”
I can do that instantly by phone or text on my cell phone.
My husband asks:
“What are the medications I am taking, and when did I have that last surgery?”
I can find the answer instantly on my cell phone under “Notes”
My husband asks:
“What was the name of that Restaurant we went to?? The actor who played that role?? The date for the next political debate? (Well, maybe not that last question)
I can find the answer instantly on my cell phone by asking “Suri” or “googling” the question on my cell phone internet.
I can also…
- Check my bank accounts to see if we can afford the item we are purchasing
- Show the latest photo of my grandchildren, or dogs, if asked.
- Read a book on my Kindle app, while I am endlessly waiting in a doctor’s office (The app even remembers where I left off)
- Find the time without wearing a watch (I tend to lose them)
- Pay for my Starbuck coffee at Target from my phone
- Quickly calculate tax or tip on my cell phone’s calculator
- Scan my rewards cards for the supermarket, gas, or discount store
- Get quick directions or a map of the area, so we don’t get lost or get off at the wrong exit
- Record someone I am interviewing if they are speaking too fast for me to keep up.
- Order an “Uber” car in New York City instead of waiting for and paying cash for a cab
- Get the confirmation number on our hotel reservation, in case I did not keep that little piece of paper I wrote it on..
I LOVE MY CELL PHONE…I USE MY CELL PHONE…I turn it off when I am asked, and do not let it ring during movies or plays.
P.S. I carry a purse because I am asked for Kleenex, mints, to “hold my wallet for me”, to “bring a bottle of water along”, to carry my CELL PHONE!!! and my own wallet. I love my purse, though it may break my shoulder some day!
I sseriously love my technologically
-challenged husband, and I love that he needs me. (and my cell phone!)
