Gananda’s High School Drama Club sets the stage for the late 1950s satire about Conrad Birdie, a musical heartthrob reminiscent of Elvis Presley fame, who is drafted into the Army. Conrad’s producer and song writer, Albert Peterson and Albert’s secretary, Rosie Alvarez, come up with a grand plan to have Birdie sing his new song “One Last Kiss” on the Ed Sullivan Show as a farewell performance. As part of the plan, Conrad is to kiss one girl at the end of his song on national television. Kim MacAfee, a small-town girl from Ohio, is the lucky girl chosen from the Conrad Birdie fan club. Albert, Rosie, and Conrad all travel to Ohio to set the plan in motion. Of course, no plan is seamless, and with their arrival in Ohio, they quickly see the plan starting to unravel. Hugo Peabody, Kim’s steady boyfriend, becomes jealous of Conrad and cannot bear the thought of his girlfriend kissing the rock star on national television. Peabody devises a plan himself – to punch out Conrad Birdie on the Ed Sullivan Show. Come see the the twists and turns of love and fame in this musical comedy presented in association with Gananda Performing Arts Boosters.
The cast, crew, and orchestra is devised of 52 students who make the production possible. Cast highlights include Gananda senior, Gavan Demeurisse, as Conrad Birdie along with senior Brandon Courteau as Albert Peterson, junior Alina Mueller as Rosie Alvarez, sophomore Alizabeth York as Kim MacAfee, and freshman Mikey Martin as Hugo Peabody. Additional Gananda seniors in the production include: Kaleigh Block, McKenna Cannon-Bailey, Nick Cunningham, Olivia Jakubowski, Alex Jenny, Joe Petrucci, Jennifer Powell, Brandon Sikora, Aleksandra Sprague, Emily Springer, and Justine Willard.
