Immediately following the adjournment of their board meetings, the town and village boards met together for the a joint Dissolution Meeting. The meeting was the first of its kind in what will be a regularly scheduled meeting which occurs monthly, from now until the dissolution is complete. The effort is being made in order to provide residents of the town and village, alongside the town and village board members, a forum to engage in a public discussion regarding the dissolution. Additionally, working together will allow decisions to be made quickly with input from residents and board members together.

Supervisor Pagano opened the meeting stating that the village and town boards have been working together cooperatively in order to benefit the entire Macedon community. She shared some examples of the teamwork completed during the month which included the cooperative hiring of a school crossing guard, the sharing of a town dump truck with the village, and a purchase of a snow removal truck to be used within the village during the winter months. “It’s just amazing how well we’re going through this transition together. I ask for everyone’s patience as we sift through this new territory together.”

Macedon Village Mayor, Bill Murray, concurred with Ms. Pagano’s sentiments and shared that, after years of asking, the village residents will be seeing tree trimming and removal throughout the village within the next few days, to be followed shortly thereafter by the start of the water project.

The main focus of the evening’s discussion was to have been a guest speaker to inform the boards and public about possible grant opportunities for the funding of the water project, however he unfortunately did not show for the meeting. Village Mayor Murray noted that the presentation will be rescheduled for a later date to be determined.

Supervisor Pagano and Mayor Murray then opened the floor for public comments and questions. One resident came forward to ask if the village can leverage the water project in tandem with the laying of fiber into an empty pipe/conduit while Main Street is already torn up. Laying the fiber would serve to bid out the fibers in an attempt to increase all resident’s broadband internet choices and speeds. Supervisor Pagano noted that the Wayne County IDA is currently hiring a company to analyze and identify all county homes that are still without broadband internet access and will proceed from there. In the meantime, both Pagano and Murray agreed to keep the suggestion in mind noting, “It can’t hurt to ask.”.

A second resident from Brookview Drive came forward to inquire about the possibility of a new drainage pipe for the street, which has been experiencing many drainage issues. The Town Highway Superintendent, Mr. Chris Countryman, explained that this matter is on the department’s radar and assured the resident that it will be attended to in the near future. Lastly, Mr. Rhett King, a dissolution advocate from the Village of Brockport, came before the two boards to congratulate them for working together, amicably, in the best interest of the community. He then asked to take a photo stating, “This is an historical moment.”.

The meeting was then adjourned at 8:29 PM for the two boards to meet in Executive Session regarding a contractual matter. The next joint Macedon Town and Village Board Dissolution Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 26th at 8:00 PM in the Macedon Town Hall.
