Charlie Donk of Palmyra has been racing in some form or another since he was 9 years old. First motorcycles and then Sprint cars, and for a number of years now, he ran stock car races.
Last Friday, at the Canandaigua Speedway, while taking an the outside on a turn, the inside car hit his tire, t-boning him and flipping both cars _ Charlie’s as many as 6 times. It busted the cage, cracked his helmet and left him injured.
Injuries included multiple fractures of his back, neck, a cracked sternum, and dislocated shoulder.
The Sprint car driver indicated this week, that, since he is injured and will be 55 in July, he is now done racing. He will call it quits.
Fans who heard of his crash sought answers last week, and sent well wishes to the driver.
