Sherman, Beverly DeMass

PORT GIBSON: Beverly Sherman, age 86, died Friday (July 7, 2017) at M M Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua. Beverly was born on September 3, 1930 in Sterling, the daughter of Ernest and Dorothy Harris DeMass. She had worked as a secretary for the Ontario County Economic Development Office. Beverly was very active in the Port Gibson United Methodist Church. She served as church treasurer and taught Sunday School as well as working on the steeple project and the stained glass fund. She heiped organize the Port Gibson Community Yard Sale and had been a Girl Scout Leader. Beverly loved to travel and looked forward to her annual mother/daughter trips. He is survived by her husband Burton; a daughter Leigh (Frank Laera) Sherman of Port Gibson and a niece Linda Smith. She was predeceased by her son Mark L. Sherman in 1975 and a sister Hallie DeMass Sweeting in 2010.
Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. on Wednesday, (July 12, 2017) at the Paul L. Murphy and Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St. in Newark. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday (July 13th) at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Port Gibson Cemetery.
