It began on Friday when Michael Williams, age 19, of Russell Road in Marion, entered the Macedon Veterinary Care on Route 31 in Macedon. He told personnel that he attempted to perform a castration on his male dog, Toby, but felt it had gone wrong.

The Macedon veterinarian told Williams that to fix the botched castration,  Williams would have to take the dog in for major surgery at the Henrietta Animal Hospital on 3156 East Henrietta Road. Williams reportedly refused the appropriate medical treatment for the dog after a medical examination by a Veterinarian.

District Attorney, Rick Healy was notified and he ordered police, who were then tailing the truck, to make a vehicle stop, seize the dog and transport it to the Henrietta Hospital. “I told them the County would take responsibility,” said Healy. The dog was taken to Henrietta, followed by police who later took statements from the doctor.

Toby is currently in the care of Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Services. He is resting comfortably and is receiving pain medication, antibiotics and IV fluids. The team at Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Service, who are developing a treatment plan for Toby, which will include long-term wound management and a surgical consult.

“Toby is receiving the best possible medical care; we will apprise you of his condition as it progresses,” the Henrietta facility spokesperson reported.

Courtney Klein, Marketing and Communications Manager for Monroe Veterinary Associates released a further statement:” Right now our only focus is on providing the best medical care for Toby. We are a well-trained emergency service with the added benefit of various specialty services on which to call depending on the severity of the situation.  Our team will rally around this type of case using all of our resources to provide the best possible medical care to patients coming to our facility. Animal cruelty is a very serious situation and we encourage all of our staff, as well as any involved parties, to report all incidents of suspected animal cruelty to the proper authorities. In Toby’s particular case, this was a very inappropriate procedure and one that easily could result in death if left untreated.

A warrant was issued for Williams and he was arrested on Friday (6/10)evening. He was charged with Animal Abuse and issued an appearance ticket for Marion Town Court.
